  • Condition: This GPS has been used for air navigation for about 50 hours, but not in the last 6 years. The GPS is complete with Yoke-mounting Bracket, both the small attached antenna (which works great) and the remotely mounted antenna. Both original manuals are included. The 12VDC power cable is also included. The Garmin database has not been updated, and I do not have the serial adapter to do the on-line upgrade. All attached photos are current and were just taken (in my car), There are no cracks or scars, and there is no corrosion in the battery compartment. The original zipper case is also in good condition. I noticed that the date/time were not exactly correct. I checked several forums, and there is likely an on-circuit-board battery that may need some time on a charge to come back to life. I have not tried the suggested strategy (leaving the unit on Charge for 2 days). I did not see any other problems. The unit instantly knew where it was, the altitude, and distance to the nearest airport.

    Description

    The Garmin 295 GPS was the first, best color GPS. It has a remarkable range of functions, and it is easy to learn and easy to use. You can use the full screen for navigation, or you can divide the screen into map and HSI information. The GPS operates from a 12VDC power cable or it can be used with 6 each AA batteries. It's the perfect unit for a classic airplane with limited (or no) electrical power. There is a small detachable antenna which always provided me with excellent service. A remote antenna is also included, and this may be better for GPS-limiting terrain.
    I plugged the unit into my car this week, and it came to life perfectly. It does not have the most recent map data loaded. The unit is still supported by Garmin, and it takes a serial connector adapter to download current maps.
    The 12VDC cable is in good condition. The yoke-mounted bracket is in good condition. The original protective case is in good condition. Both manuals are in fair-to-good condition.
    I seldom used the unit with AA batteries, and the battery compartment is clean and corrosion free.
    The screen has a wide range of brightness settings, and it works quite well in the cockpit. This unit also has an automotive setting that I have not used.
